WONDERING WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD CAR?

Why don’t you try St. Mark’s

Car Care Program

Problem:  Women who are victims of domestic violence are often financially and geographically tied to the perpetrator of the violence. In order to be personally and financially independent they must secure employment. In a rural area this is often impossible without reliable transportation.

Purpose:  To improve the quality of life for victims of domestic violence, by providing them with reliable transportation that will foster an independent life style free of the influences of the perpetrator of the violence.

Players:  St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Thayer Ford/Nissan, and First Step Domestic Violence Shelter, Fostoria.

Procedure:  In an effort to create an atmosphere of recovery and independence for women who are or have been the victim of domestic violence, St. Mark’s Church Council (through the Outreach Ministry Team) has committed $1000 to help fund the Car Care Program.  This program will secure reliable transportation for our target population by seeking donations of automobiles from the congregation and the general public. Upon receipt, Thayer Ford Nissan will inspect the donated automobile for drivability and reparability. If the car is repairable, we will contract for the repairs.  Upon completion of the repairs the car will be donated to a worthy individual. The individual recipients will be identified, screened and recommended by the First Step Shelter – Fostoria. The Car Care Program will also pay for the first six months of auto insurance.   (This assumes the recipient is insurable).  The auto title will be signed over to the individual upon completion of the repairs and the securing of six months of insurance.

If a donated auto is not deemed repairable or if repairs are cost prohibitive, it will be sold through the auto auction and the proceeds returned to the program.  We will secure, repair, and donate as many cars as possible. The program will end when we run out of money. The program can only continue through your continued support.
