St. Mark's E-mail Prayer Network

Our ushers serve a very important role in making our friends, families and guests feel right at home at St. Marks.  After being greeted with a smile and a handshake at the door by our greeters, the ushers are at the Sanctuary doors with a warm welcome, and a bulletin filled with the order of worship and church activities.

Ushers need to be at the church about a half an hour prior to the service. Other responsibilities are collecting the offering and counting the number of people present and recording that count. Ushers need to make sure the congregation is comfortable and if assistance is needed be prepared to help. After service is over the ushers pick up bulletins and debris left behind and put things back for the next service.

This is an easy and important volunteer opportunity. You may ask - can I do this; do I have the skills necessary?   Can you smile, be welcoming, maybe answer a question, pass the offering plate and pick up some papers?    The answer is of course you can. Are you still a little afraid to sign up?    We do place experienced members with those who have not ushered before.   With enough people a commitment of one month each year, (three Sundays) at one service (either 8:30 or 11:00) is all it takes.

You will not serve on Communion Sundays as another group handles this special service. Call the church office or remember to check the box for the service you wish to be a part of on the Time and Talent Sheets during our Spring Commitment Drive. If you are interested in being a Communion Usher the job is basically the same except you would direct parishioners to receive communion and the commitment is for the first Sunday of each month at one service, (8:30 or 11:00) for one year.
